History

In January 2008, Nicolson Square Church was renamed as the City of Edinburgh Church when the remaining four Edinburgh Methodist churches agreed to merge into one new church called The City of Edinburgh Methodist Church.

  • The formation of the new city church brought together four congregations:

  • Abbeyhill Methodist Church

  • Edinburgh Methodist Mission at Central Hall

  • Leith Methodist Church, and

  • Nicolson Square Methodist Church.

  • The adjacent Epworth Halls was built in 1915 to celebrate the Church’s centenary and to make room for the growing Sunday School. The Hall’s façade echoes the original building. Between 2010 and 2012 a link block was built between the two buildings to interconnect them. A large communal space was also created on the ground floor that serves as a catering space. A mezzanine floor was also created overhead the Leith Hall, this space is now known as our Abbeyhill room.
